As the result of a plea deal, Judge Brandon J. Maynard sentenced James Brenner to spend from 1 to 15 years in prison for the murder of Dylan Rounds. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person and was sentenced to 2-15 years on that charge for a total of 3-30 years.

James Brenner pled guilty in court to then murder of Dylan Rounds. His sentencing is scheduled for July 1, 2024.

Jim Brenner appeared in person in Utah District Court for the charges relating to Dylan Rounds disappearance. His counsel requested a continuance for more discovery and it was scheduled for October 2, 2023 at 1:30pm.

At James Brenner's arraignment, he was appointed a new attorney and another hearing set for June 5th and changed to August 14, 2023 at a later date.
