TIMELINE

July 3, 2023 (the day before)

Jarrett, who was 16 at the time, had gotten grounded due to damaging the family vehicle by driving it off-road, despite not being given permission by his parents.

July 4, 2023

At 6:15 am, his mother Laura spoke with Jarrett as he had more questions about the terms of his grounding. Jarrett said "OK", without protest, and went back to his room.

Around 6:45 am, Laura realized he wasn't at home. Her initial thought was that Jarrett had sneaked out to celebrate the 4th of July with his friends, even though he knew he was grounded.

At 7:30 am, Laura took her daughters to their friends house and planned to look for Jarrett at their local 4th of July parade or other places she knew Jarrett would spend time in.

At 8:30 am, Jarrett's father Brian decided to join Laura in searching for their son. However, they were no signs of him to be found.

Reporting Jarrett Missing to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office

Jarrett was reported missing at 12:28 pm to the Navajo County Sheriff's Office. He was initially treated as a teenage runaway.

Post-report discovery

Around 1:00 pm, Brian checked his gun safe and discovered his pistol was missing.

Witness sighting

A nearby rancher, Joe Zabadal, said he spotted Jarrett around 7 am walking through his pasture. The field was located about 1 mile away from the Brooks' home.

Zabadal told Brian, Jarrett's father, he could see a person matching Jarrett's description with a gun in his hand as he was walked across the field. He also stated Jarrett went under the fence and was pacing back and forth by the side of the road.

    3/18/25 Update

We have received information from two of Mason's friends that he spoke about running away to California, but his friends reported Mason didn't provide any details.  Since then, we have asked for an increase in flyer distribution in California and especially in the San Pedro area.

We have not given up hope that we will see Mason again.  At this point, if we could communicate with Mason it would be to say how much we miss him, love him and just want to talk to him.  We recognize he may not want to be home and would respect his decision; we just want to know he is okay.
