Elena Roy

Fallbrook resident Elena Roy disappeared under circumstances that remain unexplained, and her case is considered an endangered missing person investigation.

Elena Roy was last seen by independently documentation on November 2, 2021, when surveillance video captured her at a grocery store in Fallbrook, California. This is the last known sighting recognized by Elena’s family. Elena was reported missing the following day. Her partner told investigators that she left their Fallbrook residence on November 3 after an arguement and did not return; however, no independently documented public sighting confirming Elena leaving the residence that day has been identified

At the time of her disappearance, Elena was reported to be experiencing dementia or possible early-onset dementia, making her disappearance particularly concerning. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department has also reported that Elena had previously wandered away from her residence and was safely located in 2020.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department conducted extensive searches for Elena using deputies, Search and Rescue volunteers, canines, drones, off-road vehicles and the Sheriff’s Dive Team. On November 13, 2021, the case was transferred to the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit, which assumed responsibility for the ongoing investigation. Authorities explained that the transfer was procedural and, by itself, was not an indication that investigators had determined Elena was the victim of a homicide. On November 27, approximately 60 Search and Rescue volunteers conducted a large search of the Santa Margarita riverbed, but Elena was not located.  

At 83 years old, Elena was not believed to be capable of traveling a significant distance on foot or navigating particularly difficult terrain on her own. Despite the scope of the searches conducted, no trace of her has been found. For her family, the fact that Elena remains missing after such extensive search efforts continues to raise serious questions about what happened to her.

Elena remains missing. Her family continues to seek answers and encourages anyone with information about Elena’s whereabouts or circumstances surrounding her disappearance to come forward. The California Department of Justice continues to list Elena as a missing person under San Diego County Sheriff’s Office case #21147910. 

A $10,000 reward has been publicized for information leading to Elena’s whereabouts.
